Electricity Expo Africa, a leading industry event dedicated to advancing Africa’s electricity landscape, has been rescheduled to take place from 19-21 August 2025 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre. Organised by key industry leaders, the expo provides an essential platform for professionals, innovators, and stakeholders working toward sustainable and cutting-edge energy solutions across the continent.
The event is spearheaded by the Electrical Contractors Association (SA) and the South African Equity Workers Association (SAEWA) – organisations with a long-standing collaboration in shaping South Africa’s electrical industry. Their partnership led to the establishment of the Bargaining Council for the Electrical Industries in South Africa, demonstrating the remarkable impact of industry cooperation over the past 50 years.
A Platform for Innovation and Collaboration; Electricity Expo Africa is set to bring together installers, suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, regulators and students, fostering an exchange of innovative solutions to address Africa’s ongoing electricity challenges. Attendees can expect cutting-edge exhibits, insightful discussions, and business-to-business (B2B) opportunities, all aimed at driving sustainable growth and long-term economic benefits.
Since its launch in November 2024, the expo has attracted significant interest from industry professionals across Africa and beyond. Speaking at the recent Africa Energy Indaba (AEI), Minister of Electricity Kgosientsho Ramokgopa underscored the urgent need for Africa to confront the “weaponization of trade” and emphasized that, despite being mineral-rich, the continent remains one of the most energy-deprived regions globally.
According to Robert McAlpine, General Secretary of SAEWA, the expo is more than just a showcase of technology; it is a strategic initiative to bridge Africa’s energy gap, stimulate job creation, and train the next generation of energy professionals.
“Electricity is the cornerstone of Africa’s development. Our mission is to train and empower the future workforce, exposing learners and students not only to the latest advancements but also to the vast career opportunities within the electricity sector,” said McAlpine. “By fostering collaboration between academia, business, and government, the expo will play a critical role in addressing the skills gap. We aim to play our part in ensuring that Africa meets global energy standards and achieves energy security for all.”
He added, “Future generations must inherit the results of the good work this expo will deliver. This is the legacy we strive to build – a lasting impact that will be felt long after we are gone.”
Jimmy Turner, Second Vice President of the Electrical Contractors Association and Chairperson of the Board of the Electricity Expo Africa emphasizes the business side of the Expo as he states: “It is a gathering where the value chain in the Electricity Industry will spend three days to build a platform to do business with one another for years to come. We welcome all stakeholders to participate in this business inner circle.”
